The Crown, Twickenham

Best GastroPub, Twickenham

Welcome to the first in a series of blog posts that will coincide with my new food venture with FoodiezTV. FoodiezTV is a brand new online channel dedicated to finding the best restaurants from all across the UK. Each week a different video will be posted and is the workings from one of the UK's top food critics and television folk who have backgrounds in MTV to BBC and the British Film institute.

In these posts I will be naming the best restaurant in a different area from either Twickenham, Richmond or Teddington, Barnes - basically in the Borough of Richmond. I've been visiting and writing about my favourite places to eat in the area of Richmond and London for over three years and now with FoodiezTV we will be bringing my favourite places in video format. Check out the video above.

The Crown in Twickenham

First up was the best gastro pub in our area, and this was challenging. There are a few great gastropubs in Twickenham - St Margarets Tavern in East Twickenham are great as are some of the Fuller pubs around Twickenham Green but my best gastro pub had to go to The Crown in Twickenham.

Hearty Pork Dish, The Crown Twickenham

The Crown is an independently owned pub that re-opened in 2013 after a period of refurbishment.
The original building was completely renovated, so now there is a meticulous bar with a stunning Victorian Hall at the back. Outdoors is an alfresco dining area surrounded by carefully cultivated herbs and planters. With smart wooden floors and sofa furnishings, The Crown say they are smart enough to feel special, yet casual enough to be comfortable.

Asian Styled Prawns with Wasabi Mayo, The Crown Twickenham

The Crown source quality ingredients from local farms in Surrey. The menu has mediterranean to east asia influences as well as traditional British options, including my favourite - the black pudding and crispy bacon served with a poached egg and salad greens I also like the grilled Sea Bream served on a lemon risotto. The table side service can sometimes be a little sketchy but all in all this gastro pub is a cut above the rest.

Next time I will be revealing the best Italian Restaurant in Richmond so be sure to check back for that soon. Also there are loads more videos on youtube from FoodiezTV so be sure to subscribe so you don't miss a thing.

Le Salon Prive Restaurant, St Margarets Twickenham

Le Salon Prive Restaurant, St Margarets, Twickenham La Salon Prive (The Private Lounge) is actually a newly re-invigorated, and much needed refurbished Brula - a French Bistro restaurant based in St Margaret's, Twickenham for over 15 years. The restaurant went through an ownership change back in January (the former owners having connections with other Richmond restaurants, La Buvette and A Cena, as well as Covent Garden restaurant Joe Allens). The new proprietor happens to be the same owner of a very popular Italian restaurant, Bacco, in Richmond. Bacco is one of my top Italian fine dining eats and here's a  review of Bacco  here. Entrance to Le Salon Prive, Dining Room La Salon have kept the lovely glass stained windows but have totally redone the inside. Formerly the restaurant resembled something similar to your geriatric granny's living room - it might seem charming but it really felt like it had been under-invested, incidentally a similar theme also exist

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Chelsea, London

IT STARTS as soon as you pull up outside Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, the service, that is. Staff are with you every step, at your beck and call, although there's no need to beck or call - they're always one step ahead. It may be disconcerting for some folk but if you've not experienced 3* service before, relax, enjoy it, don't fall into the trap of thinking this type of place is only frequented by fancy folk who think they're the above it all. It's a place where people are celebrating and enjoying themselves. GR has a cosy, simple and relaxed ambience, not an opulent over the top dining room as you'd expect for a 3 Michelin restaurant. It's welcoming. Lightly smoked Goose We arrived in perfect timing for our booking and were greeted with smiles and 'hello's' by numerous staff as we were shown to our table. I was pleasantly surprised to see quite a few tables already occupied considering our booking was quite early at 6.30pm. We w
