Prawn Cerviche - A La Ecuador

Cerviche a la Ecuador with Popcorn (yes, that's popcorn)

Last week in London we had a heat wave where temperatures rose to around 38 degrees Celsius, I suppose if you've ever visited an especially hot climate you wouldn't have found it too unbearable
but for us ones who have adjusted down to the British weather it was quite a struggle.

Cerviche (bowl top left), Popcorn, Pickled Onions (top right), serving of cerviche (bottom)

As you may be aware in my previous post we have family visiting from Florida and NZ and we've been enjoying eating at a few pubs and drinking beer, a lot of beer. So when my sister in-law decided to make this great healthy dish, it was a welcome reprieve from all the unhealthy eats we'd been consuming. My sister in-law, lives in Florida but is originally from Ecuador, and managed to rustle up this dish after heading down to popular Twickenham Fishmongers, Sandy's, for a supply of seafood for her Prawn Cerviche. This particular cerviche doesn't have any raw fish, so if you've never mustered the courage to try a traditional cerviche you might be interested in this.

Prawn Cerviche
Now, if I was any decent sort of Food Blogger I would have obviously stood next to her with a little notebook, jotting down all the ingredients/technique/tips while she prepped this dish but, oh no, not this blogger. I was in holiday mode, too busy hovering around the barbecue in our back garden, drinking lager in the sun with lads. However I was able to query the basics that my SIL (sister in law) cooked. She had cooked approximately a kilo of large king prawns in salt, water and lime. The juice was retained and the prawns shelled and de-veined.  From there a liquid concoction is made from the retained cooked prawn juice, lime juice, coriander, blended tomato, tomato ketchup, garlic, red peppers, chilli, red onions and seasoning and then chilled for a few hours.
There is also another pickled red onion dish loaded with chilli and then to top all of this a handful of plain salted popcorn.  Yes, popcorn - don't judge until you try.

Fiery Pickled Onions
This was an excellent dish given the particularly hot weather we had been having and its is quite healthy too. The prawns were fresh from our Fishmonger in Twickenham - it pays to get fresh because it has much more flavour. It's a delicious dish and worth the effort. Since then, our beer drinking, ale loving, visitors have since returned to Florida and I am certain the refuse collectors from the council that visit every Wednesday - will notice a sizeable decrease in the amount of bottles.

Le Salon Prive Restaurant, St Margarets Twickenham

Le Salon Prive Restaurant, St Margarets, Twickenham La Salon Prive (The Private Lounge) is actually a newly re-invigorated, and much needed refurbished Brula - a French Bistro restaurant based in St Margaret's, Twickenham for over 15 years. The restaurant went through an ownership change back in January (the former owners having connections with other Richmond restaurants, La Buvette and A Cena, as well as Covent Garden restaurant Joe Allens). The new proprietor happens to be the same owner of a very popular Italian restaurant, Bacco, in Richmond. Bacco is one of my top Italian fine dining eats and here's a  review of Bacco  here. Entrance to Le Salon Prive, Dining Room La Salon have kept the lovely glass stained windows but have totally redone the inside. Formerly the restaurant resembled something similar to your geriatric granny's living room - it might seem charming but it really felt like it had been under-invested, incidentally a similar theme also exist

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Chelsea, London

IT STARTS as soon as you pull up outside Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, the service, that is. Staff are with you every step, at your beck and call, although there's no need to beck or call - they're always one step ahead. It may be disconcerting for some folk but if you've not experienced 3* service before, relax, enjoy it, don't fall into the trap of thinking this type of place is only frequented by fancy folk who think they're the above it all. It's a place where people are celebrating and enjoying themselves. GR has a cosy, simple and relaxed ambience, not an opulent over the top dining room as you'd expect for a 3 Michelin restaurant. It's welcoming. Lightly smoked Goose We arrived in perfect timing for our booking and were greeted with smiles and 'hello's' by numerous staff as we were shown to our table. I was pleasantly surprised to see quite a few tables already occupied considering our booking was quite early at 6.30pm. We w
